I looked at the official Obama for President web site. They have
created a 41 page retort to Jerome Corsi’s book Obama Nation. I was
particularly interested in how he handled his friendship with Bill
Ayers and his wife Bernadette Dohrn who participated in the bombings of
New York City Police Headquarters in
1970, of the Capitol building in 1971, and the Pentagon in 1972. Due to
prosecutorial errors he and Dohrn were never convicted but he admits he
was guilty.
As you know Dohrn & Ayers never apologized and Ayers gave an
interview, just before 9/11 that as a coincidence, was published on
9/11. In this interview he said he wished he had planted more bombs.
THIS FROM A COLLEGE PROFESSOR TEACHING OUR KIDS!
What I was looking for from Obama was something like the following.
Damn, I never knew who these people were. I was only a ten year old kid when they did these things.
If I had known about them I NEVER would have served on a Board with him
and I NEVER would have been friends with them. I would have had NOTHING
TO DO WITH THEM.
But no, instead of saying these things Obama defends them and says they
are now good mainstream Americans. But look at what he uses as his
evidence to support his friends Ayers & Dohrn.
Here is the page I copied from his 41 pages.
(Corsi’s) LIE: “Besides, Obama had to know who Ayers is and what he stands for, especially with Ayers
making this splash on 9/11.” [p 147]
(Obama's) REALITY: AYERS COMMENTS WERE PUBLISHED ON SEPTEMBER 11; THE INTERVIEW
OCCURRED PRIOR TO PUBLICATION
On September 11, 2001, A Story About William Ayers’ Memoir Was Published In The New York Times;
The Interview Occurred Prior To Publication. “‘I don’t regret setting
bombs,’ Bill Ayers said. ‘I feel we didn’t do enough.’ Mr. Ayers, who
spent the 1970’s as a fugitive in the Weather Underground, was sitting
in the kitchen of his big turn-of-the-19th-century stone house in the
Hyde Park district of Chicago.” [New York Times, 9/11/01]
This is Ludicrous. Obama’s defense is that Ayers gave the Interview
BEFORE 9/11 and it was PUBLISHED on 9/11. That is No Defense. He is
just pointing out the time line.
Now look at the second part of Obama’s Defense. He points out that
Ayers and Dohrn were also Friends with Chicago’s Mayor and with two
other Professors, Stanley Fish who says he ate dinner at Dohrn &
Ayers house and Professor Marshall who says Ayers is a good guy. THIS
IS NO DEFENSE. For all we know Fish & Marshall could have radical
backgrounds just like Ayers & Dohrn, but I am going to assume they
don't.
But that is not what rankles me. It is the fact that Obama, a graduate
of Columbia and later Harvard law and a Professor of Law at The
University of Chicago, and supposedly one of the smartest men in
America, running for President of the United States, CANNOT COME UP
WITH A BETTER DEFENSE THAN THAT HE POSTED ON HIS WEB SITE AND I HAVE
COPIED HERE!
(Corsi’s) LIE: “Sol Stern, a contributing editor of Chicago’s City
Journal, has observed that while Ayers today ‘is widely regarded as a
member in good standing of the city’s civic establishment, not an
unrepentant domestic terrorist,’ the impression of Ayers’s good
citizenship is incorrect.” [p 140]
(OBAMA’S) REALITY: AYERS AND DOHRN ARE MEMBERS OF THE ESTABLISHMENT WITH TIES TO THE MAYOR
Mayor Daley: Bill Ayers Worked With Me In Shaping Our Now
Nationally-Renowned School Reform Program And Tarring Obama For Knowing
Him Is Another Reason Americans Are Angry With Washington. “There are a
lot of reasons that Americans are angry about Washington politics. And
one more
example is the way Senator Obama’s opponents are playing
guilt-by-association, tarring him because he happens to know Bill
Ayers. I also know Bill Ayers. He worked with me in shaping our now
nationally renowned school reform program. He is a
nationally-recognized distinguished professor of education at the
University of Illinois/Chicago and a valued member of the Chicago
community. I don’t condone what he did 40 years ago but I remember that
period well. It was a difficult time, but those days are long over. I
believe we have too many challenges in Chicago and our country to keep
re-fighting 40 year old battles.” [Tribune, 4/17/08]
FIU Law Professor Stanley Fish: I Too Have Eaten Dinner At Bill Ayers
House (More Than Once), Served On A Committee With Him, And He Was One
Of Those Who Recruited My Wife And Me At A Reception When We Were
Considering Positions At UIC. Davidson-Kahn Distinguished University
Professor and a professor of law at Florida International University,
in Miami Stanley Fish wrote, “Confession time. I too have eaten dinner
at Bill Ayers’s house (more than once), and have served with him on a
committee, and he was one of those who recruited my wife and me at a
reception when we were considering positions at the University of
Illinois, Chicago.
Moreover, I have had Bill and his wife Bernadine Dohrn to my apartment,
was a guest lecturer in a course he taught and joined in a (successful)
effort to persuade him to stay at UIC and say no to an offer from
Harvard. Of course, I’m not running for anything, but I do write for
The New York Times and, who knows, this association with former
fugitive members of the Weathermen might be enough in the eyes of some
to get me canned. Did I conspire with Bill Ayers? Did I help him build
bombs? Did I aid and abet his evasion (for a time) of justice? Not
likely, given that at the time of the events that brought Ayers and
Dohrn to public attention, I was a supporter of the Vietnam War. I
haven’t asked him to absolve me of that sin (of which I
have since repented), and he hasn’t asked me to forgive him for his (if he has any). Indeed in all the time I spent
with Ayers and Dohrn, politics — present or past — never came up.” [New York Times, 4/27/08]
Stanford Law Professor Lawrence Marshall: Ayers And Dohrn Are
“Absolutely Upstanding Establishment Citizens.” The Washington Post
reported, “‘It’s kind of laughable for people who have worked with
Bernadine and Bill in the most boring and mundane settings and
recognize that they’re absolutely upstanding establishment citizens
today,’ said Lawrence C. Marshall, a Stanford University law professor.
He recalled a juvenile justice project: ‘Judges who were lifelong
ardent conservatives had no trouble recognizing that the work that
Bernadine and Bill are now doing is completely divorced from anything
in their background.’” [Washington Post, 4/8/08]
Obama is saying that since Mayor Daley and Professors Fish and Marshall
are friends of Ayers then why can't I be his friend? Obamas defense is
just like that of a kid whose mother scolds him for doing something he
shoudn't have. The kid then says "Well my friend Johnny did it too". To
which his mother replies, "Son, you know that two wrongs don't make a
right". Evidently Obamas mother never taught this lesson to little
Barack!
There is one other reason that NONE of the above should have been
friendly with Dorhn & Ayers. If they had been caught and convicted
and served their time in prison and come out and had been repentant ok,
you cut them some slack. After all, once a person does the time for the
crime we are a forgiving Nation and we look forward to their moving on
and becoming members of mainstream society. No one should be punished
forever. But Ayers and Dorhn never served any time and they are not
repentant. They are still proud of what they did and wished they had
planted more bombs. Are these the type of people you expect your
President to be friends with? Are these the type of people you want
sleeping in the White House?
